Old style purple key fob cards are still valid for now and we can easily swap these over to the new app based card
How the new card will look on your smart phone
Members nights are exlusive nights on Fridays and Saturdays after 10pm, when the bar becomes a private members only space. This allows us to open later than 2am, on the weekends - Friday until 3.00am, and Saturdays until 4.30am
Eagle’s new membership app is now live and once downloaded all you’ll need is to scan your membership card in at Eagle.
HOW TO SET IT UP:
First if all download the Out & Proud app from your IOS or Android app store. Out & Proud is a comprehensive guide to all that’s going on at all the Cardiff and surrounding gay, gay-friendly and other local gay-owned businesses.
Once you’ve downloaded the app look for the Eagle listing under Bars, Pubs and Clubs. Select ticketing. Here you will be able to purchase your annual membership (£3 until December 31, £5 from January 1, 2022) in advance and your membership card, once activated, will immediately appear on your phone within the app. When you arrive at Eagle all you’ll need to do is show us the card, we’ll scan the QR code on the door and you are in!
WHAT IF I AM ALREADY A MEMBER?
Existing purple cards are still valid, but will expire during 2022 and you can still use it until it expires. Should you wish, you can convert it to the new version at any time. After it expires you will have to get an app version if you have not already swapped over.
To swap over ask at the door and we can get that sorted for you. It will help, and speed up the process if you already have the Out & Proud app pre-installed on you phone!
WHAT IF I CAN’T PAY FOR MEMBERSHIP ON MY PHONE?
If you still prefer to pay when you get to the door, select that option when setting up your membership and we can easily sort out payment when you arrive but arrive well before 2am to complete this. Please download app and fill in membership details before arrival.
WHAT IF I DO NOT HAVE A SMARTPHONE?
You will be able to purchase membership on the door as usual - but like before, you will have to show your card on arrival each time - if you don’t have your card with you, you will have to sign up again.
WHAT IF I DON’T WANT ANYONE ACCIDENTALLY STUMBLING ACROSS THE CARD ON MY PHONE?
As above - but you will then be given a membership card to keep. This is designed to easily fit in your wallet, which we assume is something you always take out with you. The smaller key ring cards will no longer be issued. You will need to show your card on each membership night.
IS MY INFORMATION SECURE?
We never see your personal data - nor have access to it. When you pay via the app the transaction is handled by Stripe Merchant who handle your card details and payment, so we never get to see that information ourselves - nor have access to it.
WHAT IF I DON’T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT SPECIAL DRINK OFFERS OR EVENTS?
Offers and deals from Eagle are something you have to request on the app - if you don’t opt for this you won’t get to hear about them. Our new discount deals launching in 2022 will be promoted this way though - and savings you’d be entitled to could soon easily cover the cost of your annual membership.
WHY DO I NEED MEMBERSHIP ANYWAY?
We like to think Eagle is different, and to get our 4.30am weekend licence and our exclusivity, it was a condition imposed on us by council licensing. It was not our choice.
ARE THERE MEMBERSHIP RULES?
Yes, previous membership rules still apply on members’ nights. Copies are available on the door.
CAN I JOIN AT ANY TIME?
Yes, but remember any application made after 2am on a Friday or Saturday night will NOT BE VALIDATED until the following day, so make sure you join before 2am to avoid any disappointment. If you plan to come to Eagle and need a new or renewal of your membership you will have to do it before 2am.
WHY IS THERE A MEMBERSHIP FEE?
Membership is a condition imposed on us and this extremely low cost partially helps us cover the cost of maintaining this. At £3 a year (less than 6p a week) we think this is tremendous value for money. Even when prices increase to £5 (10p a week) it is still exceptional value
WHY DO OTHER LOCAL VENUES NOT HAVE MEMBERSHIP?
Simple - most that have extra late licenses like Eagle normally charge weekend admission. They are open to everyone and It’s likely you’d pay considerably more if you went out on a Friday and Saturday in just one weekend than the cost of our annual membership - then of course you’d have to pay admission at these venues every weekend. Eagle is always free!
